Divorce hit our kid hard
After my husband and I separated last year our 9-year-old started having nightmares, crying at school and throwing tantrums we'd never seen before. Therapy helped a bit but her counselor suggested we also see a psychiatrist. Never done this before and honestly feeling overwhelmed. Any advice on what to expect?

I’ve been in a very similar spot with my niece after her parents split, she started having intense sleep issues and emotional outbursts that felt completely out of character. Therapy helped, but things only really made sense once a child psychiatrist got involved to look at the bigger picture and rule out anything deeper going on. The first visit was more like a detailed conversation about behavior, stress, and family changes, nothing scary or rushed. My sister found it easier after checking child psychiatrist near me for anxiety and depression because it gave her a clearer idea of how pediatric psychiatric care actually works before going in.
