Note regarding Runner registration token disclosure: This update will reset runner registration tokens for your group and projects. If you use an automated process (scripts that encode the value of the registration token) to register runners, this update will break that process. However, it should have no affect on previously registered runners. If applicable to your processes, your administrator may choose to save a backup of your existing tokens which can later help identify potentially malicious registration tokens, or rogue runners. For example, if an unauthorized actor tries to register a runner using one of the revoked tokens, knowing that value will help admins monitor that type of activity.

An issue has been discovered in GitLab CE/EE affecting all versions starting from 12.10 before 14.6.5, all versions starting from 14.7 before 14.7.4, all versions starting from 14.8 before 14.8.2. An unauthorized user was able to steal runner registration tokens through an information disclosure vulnerability using quick actions commands. This is a critical severity issue (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N, 9.6). It is now mitigated in the latest release and is assigned CVE-2022-0735.

Patches named security-patch-$VERSION.patch close the vulnerability which exposed runner registration tokens via quick action commands, andpatches named token-prefix-patch-$VERSION.patch can be applied to automate a one-time rotation of all project & group registration tokens.

After applying the token-prefix-patch, instances with a small number of groups and projects (under 10,000) can optionally use the following rails console commands to immediately reset all project & group runner registration tokens:

It's also worth mentioning that keygens are much more valuable to bad actors than cracks, becausea keygen can be used on the real application, vs the bad actor having to distribute a modified,cracked version of the application.

i don't think you need two fast sessions a week really. i think one hard workout, one long run, and one mid range run is enough. you don't need a ton of speed to break 25, its mostly endurance, assuming you are a strength runner.

It also has an enormous effect on cracking salted hashes. If hashcat notices that all hashes which are bound to a specific salt are cracked, it's safe to not generate new guesses for this specific salt anymore. This means, for example, if you have 2 hashes with different salts and one is cracked, the speed is doubled. Now if you restart the session for any reason the potfile marks the one cracked hash as cracked and so the salt is marked as cracked. You startup with doubled guessing speed.

Note that using a potfile is very different from the idea which you have in mind when you are used to use --remove. Having a hashlist with only uncracked hashes is fine, but with potfile you can do the same if you use the --left switch. For example, if your cracking session is finished and you want to have a left list, you simply run:

This also implies that when you don't specify a mask explicitly, it could happen (and is very likely) that you do not crack some hashes which you might expect to be cracked immediately/easily (because of the reduced keyspace of the default mask). Therefore, we encourage you that you always should specify a mask explicitly to avoid confusion.

Imagine that you have a large hashlist with 100 salts. This will reduce your guessing speed by a factor of 100. Once all hashes bound to a given salt are cracked, hashcat notices this and skips over that specific salt. This immediately increases the overall performance, because now the guessing speed is only divided by 99. If you crack another salt, the speed is divided by 98, and so on. That's why it's useful to tell hashcat about cracked hashes while it's still running.

This directory can be used to tell hashcat that a specific hash was cracked on a different computer/node or with another cracker (such as hashcat-legacy). The expected file format is not just plain (which sometimes confuses people), but instead the full hash[:salt]:plain.

Just to make this clear: We can crack passwords up to length 55, but in case we're doing a combinator attack, the words from both dictionaries can not be longer than 31 characters. But if the word from the left dictionary has the length 24 and the word from the right dictionary is 28, it will be cracked, because together they have length 52.

That is because hashcat legacy does not sort out double hashes of the input hashlist. If you have multiple times the same hash in your hashlist it will always crack only the first. This means, even if you use --remove, it's possible that you end up with a hashlist that contains a cracked hash. To avoid such problems make sure you remove duplicate hashes from your hashlist before your run it with hashcat legacy.

WEP cracking is not an exact science. The number of required IVs depends on the WEP key length, and it also depends on your luck. Usually, 40-bit WEP (64 bit key) can be cracked with 300,000 IVs, and 104-bit WEP (128 bit key) can be cracked with 1,500,000 IVs; if you're out of luck you may need two million IVs, or more.

The figures above are based on using the Korek method. With the introduction of the PTW technique in aircrack-ng 0.9 and above, the number of data packets required to crack WEP is dramatically lowered. Using this technique, 40-bit WEP (64 bit key) can be cracked with as few as 20,000 data packets and 104-bit WEP (128 bit key) with 40,000 data packets. PTW is limited to 40 and 104 bit keys lengths. Keep in mind that it can take 100K packets or more even using the PTW method. Additionally, PTW only works properly with selected packet types. Aircrack-ng defaults to the PTW method and you must manually specify the Korek method in order to use it.

WPA2 (aka 802.11i) is exactly the same as WPA1, except that CCMP (AES in counter mode) is used instead of RC4 and HMAC-SHA1 is used instead of HMAC-MD5 for the EAPOL MIC. Bottom line, WPA2 is a bit better than WPA1, but neither are going to be cracked in the near future.
