What is the main use of pregabalin?
The main use of pregabalin is to treat neuropathic (nerve-related) pain. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia (pain following shingles), and nerve pain associated with spinal cord injury. Pregabalin works by calming overactive nerve signals in the brain and nervous system, which helps reduce pain sensations.
In addition to nerve pain, pregabalin is also used as an adjunct therapy for partial seizures in epilepsy and for the management of generalised anxiety disorder in some countries. Because it affects the central nervous system, pregabalin should only be used under medical supervision to ensure safe dosing and minimise side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness.
